Eli or, formally, Elijah

This was the name of my retriever and friend for 15 years. Considered among us as an equal in all things (with the exception of the oppositional thumb thing) and thought of by all who knew him as one of our Creators finest works, he was a credit to the name.
Not to get too biblical, he was named after the only known human to ascend to Heaven in physical form, if your theology allows, as mine does. I couldn't think of a more honorable name and a dog so deserving as a golden.

On the practical side, it's short, unusual, meaningful and easy for your dog to learn. Besides, anybody that names a dog after a soda or cologne shouldn't own a dog...maybe a turtle or something.
