Mexican Chihuahua Names

Names From South Of The Border

Mexican Chihuahua names might just be the perfect fit for this breed that hails from south of the border. Because Chihuahuas are associated with Mexico, many of these small pups are called by words common to the Spanish language or which highlight the South of the Border association.

You may choose an English word which is meaningful to you and has been translated into Spanish, a Spanish word which has an especially nice ring or sound when spoken, or even a non-Mexican word which sounds Spanish in origin. Whatever you choose, remember your companion will hear the name you select many, many times during his or her life, so pick something you both can enjoy and like. Perhaps even let your pet help choose by seeing the response when choices you like are spoken. If your pet tilts its head, barks, comes, or otherwise responds in a positive way, it means that he or she likes the choice.

If you adopt a Chihuahua which already has a known name, it is wise not to try to change to a Mexican moniker. It can be difficult and even a bit traumatic for the dog to have to relearn a new name that it must respond to immediately. Even if you’d prefer another name, consider your pooch’s feelings and leave that situation alone. However, a dog with no known existing name can, when adopted, gently be adjusted to accept the Mexican word or phrase you choose.
