Choosing A Toy That Will Match Your Dog...

There are endless dog toys available today and this makes picking out the right one especially difficult. You may have already begun looking for the perfect one for your irrepressible puppy but find yourself just cruising down the pet store aisles without a clue of what works for your dog. Different dogs will require different dog toys, so take a few minutes to consider what habits your dog has and that will make the decision that much easier.

Beagles

  • The Chewer Has your dog been chewing since the minute you brought him or her home from the pet store or shelter? Then you will want to invest in dog chew toys that will allow them the ability to chew all they want without turning towards negative chewing on shoes, table legs or even on your arm. Most chews are made of a heavy-duty plastic material and many actually claim to be indestructible, so that your dog can chew to their heart’s content.

  • The Tugger Tug ropes are excellent for dogs that like to rough house a little, especially when they are pups, and these toys are also a great way to wear them out if they cannot get outdoors for a walk. Although you could try a basic rope you have in your garage, it is best to go for a specific dog rope that is built tough. This will help to ensure staying power, as dogs have especially strong teeth and can rip through rope fairly quickly. Many specific rope toys will have a handle for the owner to grip one end while the dog grips the other or will have two knots so that two dogs can pull at the same time.

  • The Snuggler Many smaller dogs enjoy snuggling up to their owners and may even get a little separation anxiety when their owner is away. If this is your dog, you may want to try a stuffed or plush dog toy, similar to a child’s teddy bear. These puppy toys often become a dog’s favorite pal that they will take everywhere with them, snuggling in their dog bed, crate, or even in bed with their owners. While stuffed and plush toys are great for some dogs, if your dog is a chewer or a tugger, this is not a toy for him. Most likely you will just end up with toy stuffing and teddy bear body parts all over your house!

  • The Fetcher There are endless varieties of fetching dog toys available, starting from the basic and cheap tennis ball to the heavy duty and sturdy Frisbee. If you have a dog that loves to play fetch or loves to swim after the ball in the water, it is probably a safe bet that you will want to invest in a fetching toy. If you don’t have a very good throwing arm, there are even fetching toys available that come with a flinging contraption that will help throw the ball further away so that the dog can really get a good workout. Fetching toys are great for giving your dog some exercise in the backyard. To make sure your fetching toy gets the most use, it is best to keep this specific toy up and away from pets after you have finished fetching. This will keep it from getting worn out in the backyard by weather and it will also keep them from using these dog toys as a chew toy.
