There may be several reasons to consider dog clothes for your favorite pooch.
For a very small dog or a puppy, a sweater may be a necessity to keep them warm in the winter. While other times you may just want to dress up your favorite dog in a costume during the holidays. Whatever the reason you are considering purchasing dog clothes for your favorite pet, the dog clothing industry is becoming more and more popular every year, allowing owners more options for their dogs. This makes it just as easy to dress up a big dog, as it is to dress up a small dog or a puppy.

Most dog clothing is very similar in material to human clothing, just engineered differently to suit a dog’s different body type. Almost all dog apparel will snap, tie or buckle underneath the belly of the dog and may even have snaps or ties that go around the legs. Many times there will be two leg holes, for the front two legs, so that the dogs can wear the material as a shirt or sweater. With the rise in popularity of these types of clothing, there has also been a rise in specialty dog stores that will have a wide variety of clothing options available. If you do not have a dog specialty store in your area, almost all suburban areas will have at least a pet store where a limited selection of dog clothes are available. Designer dog clothing lines are also becoming popular online, so dog lovers can order clothes from the comfort of their own home.
All-Weather Apparel It is becoming more common to see all-weather apparel available for dogs of all sizes. These include raincoats that will go over the dog’s back and snap on the bottom, with matching rain boots and a hat. At your local boating store, you will also be able to find doggie life jackets that are an absolute must if you are taking your dogs out on a boat in the middle of a lake or ocean. Although dogs are known for being able to “doggie paddle” you cannot be sure what the weather will be like. Another good all-weather option is a sun visor that goes around a dog’s ears and will keep the sun out of their face. This is important for dogs like the Maltese, that are prone to sunburn or the Pug, which is known for overheating. Dog sweaters are also a must for the cold weather, especially for short haired, small dogs like the Chihuahua.
Sports Gear Most sports fans love to dress their small children up with sports apparel from their favorite teams, so why not their dogs? Many designer sports apparel companies have branched out and begun offering sports gear for dogs. These include jerseys, which fit easily over the dog’s head and over their front paws. Some designer companies will even include a personalized name on the back of the jersey. Along with jerseys, designer sports companies also have hats, bandanas, designer sports collars, leashes, water bowls, booties and even dog beds for sale.
Costumes Whether it be a princess costume for Halloween or a set of reindeer ears for Christmas, there are now dog costumes available for almost any occasion. Although you may find a wider variety of costumes available at a designer or specialty dog clothes store, almost anywhere you can buy dog supplies there will be at least a handful of novelty dog accessories available.
