Dog Beds
Dogs Like Soft Beds Too! So Choose The Right One
There are endless choices of dog beds available, from basic types of bedding to designer brands, so you want to make sure you find the kind that is the best suited for your pet’s lifestyle.
Even though it may seem as easy as heading to a pet store and picking up one of many choices available, there are actually many different factors you should consider before selecting the right one for your family pet. Location in the Home This is probably the most important factor to consider when purchasing a bed. Will the dog be sleeping in the master bedroom, in the living room or in a crate in a spare room? You will want to select a room that is large enough for a bed that will fit your pet and is also a place that makes them feel safe at night. It is also important to consider location because it will be important to match the color of your bed to the furniture, accessories or paint in the room. This way the bed does not seem like an eyesore or out of place in the room. Keep in mind that if you will have a pet that is crated at night, there are specific crate beds, which are long and flat. These can easily be placed in the crate to provide your puppy with comfort while they sleep at night.

The Health of Your Pet If you have an older pet or a pet that has hip problems, disc problems, knee problems or just trouble getting around, you may want to consider an orthopedic bed or a luxury bed. These may be a bit pricey, but they are made of a high-density foam material, similar to a human orthopedic bed, which will make it easier for your pooch to get in and out of throughout the day. This will also help to support their bones and muscles as they rest. The Right Fabric Believe it or not, beds for dogs are available in canvas, denim, fleece, cotton, suede and even upholstery material, making your decision to find the right one even more difficult. When choosing a fabric it is best to consider your pup’s need for warmth throughout the year. If you own a long-haired breed, such as a Siberian Husky, they will keep themselves warm year round so a basic cool cotton or canvas will work fine. For smaller or short-haired breeds that may get cold easily, such as a Chihuahua, they may enjoy snuggling up to fleece or even a suede or warm upholstery material. Keep in mind that some dog beds will be washable, usually meaning that the outside layer can be peeled off and placed in the washer. If you have a pup that sheds a great deal or that gets dirty easily, it may be important to also consider a fabric that can be washed easily without fading or shrinking.
Price Similar to human beds, there are a variety of different brands and costs for dog beds. There are even designer and luxury dog beds available! These types will offer extra cushioning, extra support and extra room. Many of them actually resemble a couch, equipped with arm rests and all so that dogs can rest their heads as they would on a couch. Some designer dog beds that are specially ordered will even be personalized with the dog’s name. Keep in mind, though, that while a basic bed for your puppy can begin around $20-$30 for a small dog and $50-$60 for a large dog, designer or luxury dog beds can run as high as $150-$250.
